More Travelers Predicted for Thanksgiving
AAA/Peg Broadcasting News Monday November 20, 2017

Millions more people plan on spending Thanksgiving out of town this year, according to AAA. Most people, 89-percent of travelers, will take a road trip. AAA says those road trips will cost more than last year. Gas prices for this holiday week are the highest since 2014. AAA projects 1.16 million Tennesseans will travel 50 miles or more; an increase of 3.2% over last year. AAA says more people are traveling because of low unemployment rates, increases in home values and a healthy stock market, to name a few.

District Names Christians 2017 Outstanding Conservation Farmer
Submitted: Lynn Carey Office Manager Cumberland County Soil Conservation District/PEG Monday November 20, 2017

The Cumberland County Soil Conservation District (CCSCD) recently honored Gerald and Steve Christian as the 2017 Outstanding Conservation Farmers at its Annual Awards Dinner. The father and son farming operation consists of a commercial beef cow/calf operation in the Vandever Community of Cumberland County and is managed on approximately 350 acres of pasture and hayland. This year the Christians participated in the Tennessee Department of Agriculture's Drought Assistance Program where they tried a forage and biomass planting of Sudangrass to boost their summer forage production in fields that were damaged by the 2016 drought. This was their first experience with Sudangrass and they were very pleased with the results.
