High School Basketball

Tuesday the Cumberland County High School Lady Jets ran their overall record to 19 and 1 and claimed sole possession of the top spot in District 7-AA as they posted a 75-41 home win over Bledsoe County. The Lady Jets are now 3 and 0 in the District. The Jets also sit alone atop the District standings as they improved to 3 and 0 in District play and 13 and 7 overall with a 88-39 win over the Warriors. Both CCHS teams are unbeaten at home this season.

Stone Memorial traveled to Cookeville on Tuesday for District 6-AAA games. The Lady Panthers are now 14 and 5 overall and 1 and 1 in the District following their 47-41 loss to the Lady Cavs. The Panthers fall to 9 and 10 overall and 0 and 2 in District action as they dropped their game with the Cavaliers by a single point, 54-53 the final.

Thursday SMHS will entertain White County and Friday the Lady Panthers and Panthers are on the road traveling to Warren County. All SMHS District games are live on Mix 99.3. Also on Friday the Cumberland County High School Lady Jets and Jets play District games as they travel to Grundy County; catch the action on 102.5 WOW COUNTRY.

 


Oak Ridge Student Suspected of Causing Explosions

The Oak Ridge Police Department has detained a student suspected of causing at least two explosions in the Oak Ridge area, WVLT reports. Police say the juvenile goes to Oak Ridge High School. On Tuesday, the bomb squad was called in to assist in searching a vehicle in the school?s parking lot. Police have not released the student?s name at this time.

 


Two Putnam County Schools Placed On Lockdown During Search In Murder Case

Two Putnam County schools were placed on lockdown this morning (1/23/18) while police searched nearby for a person of interest in a murder case. According to a Press Release by the Cookeville Police Department, around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, officers responded to a residence off North Washington Avenue to assist detectives from the Metro Nashville Cold Case Squad investigating a murder that occurred on December 27, 2017. Given the nature of the investigation and to ensure the safety of the public, Jere Whitson Elementary and Cookeville High School were place in a temporary soft lockdown. This included the notification of parents of the students attending those schools. Authorities did not reveal the name of the suspect or give further details about the case. The scene was secure and no injuries were reported at the time of the Press Release. Also assisting in this investigation were the Putnam County Sheriff's Department, Putnam County Board of Education, and Putnam County Emergency Medical Service.

 


County Commission Approves Road List

The Cumberland County Commission approved the 2018 Cumberland County Road List during its January monthly meeting, the Crossville Chronicle reports. There were few changes with Hickory Gap Lane, Hickory View Lane, and King John Lane added to the list. John Taylor Road was removed from the list.

 


John Dylan Adams Sentenced To 35 Years In Holly Bobo Murder Case

The brother of a man serving life without parole for kidnapping, raping and killing Tennessee nursing student Holly Bobo has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for kidnapping her and facilitating her murder. John Dylan Adams allegedly joined with his brother Zachary Adams in raping the young woman before the elder Adams shot her. The victim's mother, Holly Bobo, said she agreed to the plea deal for the sake of her family.
